Senior Citizens Sit on Road in Protest Over Water Crisis in Mahapurusha’s Village
Puri District, Satyabadi Block: The historic village of Sriramchandrapur, home to two legendary figures among the Panchasakha and freedom fighters—Pandit Neelakantha Das and Acharya Harihara Das—is currently facing a severe drinking water crisis. Despite decades having passed since independence, villagers are still struggling to get even a single drop of potable water.
Frustrated by this long-standing issue, the villagers today blocked the main road of the village, staging a protest demanding urgent action. According to sources, although a borewell exists in Sriramchandrapur, the water is being supplied to other nearby villages through panchayat pipelines, leaving the host village itself parched.
Despite repeated complaints, the water tank in the village remains dry, and the taps connected to households are not delivering adequate water. Villagers are being forced to depend solely on the limited water available from tanker supplies.
Taking serious note of this issue, several senior citizens, along with other villagers, sat on the road for nearly five hours this morning in protest. Eventually, officials from the Water Supply Department and the Block Chairman arrived at the protest site and assured the villagers that the water supply issue would be resolved within a day. Following this promise, the villagers agreed to end the road blockade.
