Demand for Appointment of Livestock Inspector
Kakatpur, 06/06: For the past 15 years, there has been no appointed Livestock Inspector at the Patapur Animal Assistance Center under the Kundai Gram Panchayat of Kakatpur block. The primary occupation of the people in this region is agriculture and animal husbandry. Over 80% of the population depend on cattle, goats, and sheep farming for their livelihood.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of proper treatment and training, they often suffer losses in animal farming. Unqualified and inexperienced practitioners are causing financial exploitation and mistreatment, leading to the death of many cows and bulls. As a result, many are withdrawing from animal husbandry and migrating to other places in search of labor work.
Despite having around 1,500 cows and bulls and over 1,000 goats and sheep in the region, due to the inattention of government authorities — including the Chief District Veterinary Officer and the Sub-Divisional Veterinary Officer of Puri — locals are facing serious difficulties.
Repeated complaints from the residents requesting the appointment of a Livestock Inspector have not yielded any results. The locals now urge the departmental minister and authorities to pay attention to this issue. Otherwise, farmers and cattle rearers have warned of launching a protest.
