Five Fraudsters Arrested in Hanuman Coin Racket – Hanuman Coin, Honda Car, and Mobile Phones Seized
On 26.06.2023 at around 4 PM, while SI Surama Swain was patrolling the police station area with her team, she received a tip-off from a reliable source that some individuals in a car had arrived at Gadadhar Sahu’s house in Nuagaon Dihi, Sakhigopal, to make a deal related to a “Hanuman coin.” These individuals were falsely identifying themselves as licensed buyers and sellers of antique items. They were luring innocent people by claiming that if a coin was genuine, they would buy it for a large sum of money after testing its authenticity.
Taking the matter seriously, SI Surama Swain, under whose supervision the police team, along with witnesses, raided the location, successfully apprehended five individuals. From their possession, one brass coin with a Hanuman image on one side and the inscription “East India Company, 1818, Half Anna” on the other was seized, along with testing materials such as vermilion, raw rice, pencil, thread, etc., three mobile phones, and a Honda Amaze car.
The accused failed to produce any documentation regarding their activities, leading to the seizure of the items and their subsequent arrest. A case has been registered at Satyabadi Police Station under case number 213, under Sections 417/420/511/34 of the IPC and Section 25(1)(2) of The Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972.
The IIC of Satyabadi has taken charge of the investigation, and the arrested fraudsters will be presented before the court today. It is worth noting that in the past, several cases related to kidnapping, murder, and robbery have surfaced in connection to the Hanuman coin scam. Hence, under the directive of the Puri SP, a special team has been formed to investigate the matter thoroughly. Strict action will be taken against other mafia members involved in this racket. Additional SP Sushil Kumar Mishra visited the crime scene and is assisting in the investigation.
