Monsoon Brings Relief to the Coast, Farmers Gear Up for Kharif Cultivation
Kakatpur, 28/6: The Astaranga coastal region has been experiencing continuous monsoon rainfall for the past three days. Although the rainfall is moderate, it has brought much-needed relief to the coastal residents who had been suffering under intense heat in recent days. The trees, animals, birds, and the entire environment now feel calm and refreshed.
With the arrival of the rains, people have started planting banana, coconut, and guava saplings in their home gardens and are preparing for seasonal vegetable cultivation in their backyards. Due to continuous light rainfall, the soil in low-lying fields has become soft and moist, enabling farmers to begin preparations for cultivation.
They are getting ready by fencing off the fields and preparing for sowing paddy in lowland areas. Some farmers had already sown seeds before or just after the Raja festival and are now happy to see the crops sprouting thanks to the timely rains. While some farmers are using seeds stored from the previous year, most are opting to buy improved hybrid seed varieties from outside that promise higher yields.
As adverse climatic conditions pose challenges to farming every year, this season, farmers have demanded that quality seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and agricultural loans be provided at subsidized rates to support successful Kharif cultivation.
