Debi River Water Level Crosses Danger Mark, Embankment Safe Even During Peak Flood – Irrigation Department
Kakatpur, 04/08: Following the rise in floodwaters in the Mahanadi River, the Debi River — which flows through the Kakatpur and Astarang blocks of Puri district — has crossed the danger level, causing fear and anxiety among riverside villagers.
At Bauria Kana in the Debi River, where the danger mark is 4.93 meters, the water level was recorded at 5.10 meters at 9 AM today. As the water level in the river continues to rise gradually, local residents are extremely worried and unable to sleep.
The Irrigation Department has deployed round-the-clock surveillance at the embankments, with continuous patrolling being carried out. A 24-hour control room has also been opened at the Sub-Divisional Irrigation Office in Kakatpur. Hourly updates on the water level are being communicated to senior department officials and the State Flood Control Room.
Assistant Engineer Tapan Kumar Nayak stated that the embankments are safe even during peak flood conditions. He further informed that adequate stock of sandbags and boulders has been kept ready to handle emergency situations. He advised the public not to panic unnecessarily and to stay alert.
