Mother Has Cancer — Father Suffers Stroke: A Heartfelt Appeal by a Minor Son for Help
Kakatpur: A deeply distressing situation has unfolded for a young boy from Kakatpur, Puri district. At just 14 years old, he is pleading for help as his mother battles cancer and his father is paralyzed due to a brain stroke. With both parents fighting for their lives, the young son, Rakhal, finds himself in an overwhelming and helpless situation.
At an age when he should be playing with friends in the village streets, Rakhal is instead struggling to save his parents’ lives. A student of Class 9, Rakhal has taken on the immense responsibility of caring for both his ailing mother and father.
Parshuram Parida (50) and his wife Basanti Parida (39), residents of Balabhadrapur village under Chhuriayana Panchayat in Astaranga Block of Puri district, are both confined to their beds due to illness. Parshuram, who used to work outside the state for a company, supported his two sons, elderly father, and wife, living a content life—until tragedy struck.
It began when Basanti fell ill and was taken to a medical facility by her husband. Doctors diagnosed her with cancer, a revelation that shocked Parshuram so deeply he suffered a stroke and is now undergoing treatment at Sunshine Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Meanwhile, Basanti, weakened by cancer, lies at home fighting for her life. Of their two sons, the elder is with their father at the hospital, while young Rakhal stays at home, caring for his bedridden mother.
Financial constraints have made their situation worse. The funds provided under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana have already been exhausted, and family and friends can no longer provide support. Both parents continue to battle for survival.
In a moment of desperate hope, Rakhal recently met with local MLA and State Home Minister Tusharkanti Behera during an event in Pirjahania. With tears in his eyes, the boy explained his parents’ critical condition. Moved by the appeal, the minister assured him he would try to arrange medical support through the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana.
Rakhal and the villagers have now appealed for public support. If the government cannot step in immediately, they hope that some kind-hearted individuals might extend a helping hand to ensure Parshuram and Basanti can recover and reunite with their children.
