Dead Cetacean Dolphin Found Near Devi River in Astaranga
Kakatpur (Tushar Ranjan Dixit), 21/10: Local residents spotted a dead dolphin belonging to the cetacean species near the Devi River in Nuagada. The dolphin was found in the Devi River near Nuagada Jethi Road, under the Astaranga block of Puri district.
The deceased dolphin, believed to be of the cetacean species, was estimated to be about 6 feet 7 inches in length. It is suspected that the dolphin may have died due to injuries caused by a trawler in the sea. Upon discovering the dolphin, locals informed the forest department, which arrived at the scene by evening.
The forest department reached the spot and is currently investigating the entire incident. They will try to determine the exact cause of death if it indeed is a dolphin. The dolphin’s weight is estimated to be around one quintal (100 kilograms).
Meanwhile, the discovery of this rare cetacean species dolphin’s dead body near Nuagada in Astaranga has raised concerns among intellectuals. They have expressed the need for strict action by the police and administration against illegal trawlers. It has come to light that due to the iron blades of the trawlers, many dolphins of the cetacean species are being fatally injured.
There is a growing demand from the public for the forest department to take necessary steps to prevent the loss of such innocent marine life in the future.
