Equipment Worth Lakhs Stolen from Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department Office
A major theft has taken place at the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department office located near the tehsil under Kakatpur police limits. Valuable equipment and materials worth several lakhs of rupees, including computers, fans, and mechanical parts, have reportedly been stolen. Tanuja Priyadarshini, the Junior Engineer of Kakatpur Section-2, has lodged a written complaint with Kakatpur Police Station. According to the complaint, the previous Junior Engineer had been on medical leave for the past two years. In the meantime, Tanuja Priyadarshini from Section-1 had taken over responsibilities around four months ago. After returning to the office following election duty, she discovered that some miscreants had broken the office lock and stolen machinery, a computer, fans, and other valuable equipment.
Among the missing items are several high-powered pumps and motors, control panels, chain pulleys, fans, and a computer. Another storeroom lock was also found broken, but the value and quantity of stolen items from that section are yet to be fully assessed. Initially, the office operated with ten employees, but at present, only one staff member is overseeing the premises. The absence of night security despite storing such valuable equipment has raised serious concerns. The office is now in such a neglected state that it resembles an abandoned building, and even during the day, officials are reluctant to enter due to fear.
The Kakatpur police have started an investigation. However, there is speculation that the theft might have involved some lower-level insiders from the department.
