Senior Citizens Are Valuable Assets to Society

Senior citizens are not a burden on society; rather, their experience and wisdom are a valuable asset to it, said the speakers at a special event today. The occasion was the celebration of World Senior Citizens Day organized by the Senior Citizens Forum of Satyabadi Vikas Parishad at the Panchasakha Memorial Library in the afternoon.
Gracing the event as the chief guest, District Social Security Officer Subhranshu Shekhar Maharana highlighted various government provisions and welfare measures for senior citizens. He also assured that the department is always ready to assist with the concerns of the elderly.
Deputy Director of the Information and Public Relations Department, Santosh Kumar Sethi, emphasized that senior citizens have made immense contributions to society, and ensuring their happiness, well-being, and security is a collective responsibility. He also proposed preparing an information booklet on laws and schemes concerning senior citizens, which could benefit the forum members.
Former Zilla Parishad Chairperson Sakhimani Baral, as an honored guest, shared her views on the importance of senior citizens and their contributions to community development.
The event was presided over by Gundicha Baral, President of the Senior Citizens Forum. During the session, Forum Secretary Amar Nanda introduced the guests and delivered the welcome address, while Vice President Birendra Bhushan Hota provided an overview of the program and led a discussion on the rights and responsibilities of senior citizens.
At the end of the program, identity cards were distributed to the senior citizens. The event saw participation from elderly citizens across various panchayats.
