Shobha Foundation, a social organization based in Balidokan under Kakatpur block, has carried out extensive palm sapling plantation during the current monsoon season. With the objective of promoting biodiversity, livelihood, and environmental protection, the foundation has been actively involved in collecting and planting palm saplings for the past five years under the leadership of its chairman and environmentalist journalist, Jnyan Ranjan Bishwal, who is also a recipient of the “Prakruti Bandhu” award.
This year alone, the organization has collected and planted 500 palm saplings in and around Balukhanda Sanctuary and other vacant areas. Previously, the foundation had successfully planted 5,000 saplings along the Tondahar seashore in Astaranga block. Every year, between 500 to 1,000 saplings are planted.
In the current year, with the support of Shobha Foundation trustees such as Vidyadhar Behera, Suchitra Pradhan, and Tapan Khatoi, the plantation of 500 saplings has been completed. Considering the region’s coastal and lightning-prone nature, the foundation aims to continue planting more saplings in the future to enhance biodiversity, ensure environmental safety, and support local livelihoods, informed Chairman Jnyan Ranjan Bishwal.
