Dr. Manmohan Singh Passes Away
Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has passed away. He was 92 years old at the time of his death. Due to difficulty in breathing earlier today, he was admitted to AIIMS, where he breathed his last.
Dr. Singh served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. Before that, he held several important positions including Finance Minister, Finance Secretary, and Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He is widely credited with playing a pivotal role in pulling India out of economic crisis and steering the country toward growth.
He was a key architect of India’s economic liberalization reforms that began in 1991.
Dr. Singh was born on 26 September 1932 in Gah village, located in Chakwal district of West Punjab, now in Pakistan. After the partition of India in 1947, his family migrated to India.
He studied economics at Punjab University and later earned his DPhil degree from Oxford University.
