Veteran Businessman Passes Away; Chandan Bazaar Mourns Closure Following Journalist’s Father’s Demise
Kakatpur, 29/12 – A wave of mourning swept across Chandan Bazaar following the demise of Kelu Charan Swain, father of Bhagabat Swain, the local correspondent for Dainik Khabar newspaper. The 73-year-old veteran businessman, who had been active in Chandan Bazaar for the last 60 years, passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Upon hearing the news of his death, condolences began pouring in, and people rushed to his residence in Kakatpur to pay their respects. Late Shri Swain began his business journey in 1960 and had established himself as a respected and prominent trader in the region.
Yesterday afternoon, he suddenly fell ill and was initially treated in Kakatpur. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he later passed away.
Following the news of his demise, several dignitaries and local businessmen paid their last respects. His mortal remains were taken in a procession around Kakatpur Market, passing through Ganesh Bazaar and Lakshmi Bazaar, where local figures including Kakatpur Press Club President Kamal Lochan Dixit, Aditya Raut, Manas Dixit, and Prashant Jena offered floral tributes.
Members of Mangala Cricket Club, including President Pradeepta Dixit, advisor and youth leader Himanshu Bhushan Dixit, Tapan Kumar Dixit, Dhirendra Chand, Shubhranshu Dixit, Sanjay Samal, Shyam Sundar Rana, Suryakant Dixit, and Sushanta Das also offered flowers and paid homage.
His last rites were conducted at Swargadwar in Puri, where his elder son Gyanaranjan performed the mukhagni (ritual fire). Family members including his brother Prakash Swain, grandchildren, and relatives were present during the cremation.
His passing has cast a deep shadow of grief over the entire Kakatpur region.
