Gopal Das in Choudwar Jail
Cuttack Office/Choudwar/Brajarajnagar, 15.2 (DNA): Gopal Das, the accused in the murder case of former Health Minister Naba Das, was transferred from Jharsuguda to Choudwar Circle Jail on Tuesday under tight security. Gopal is now lodged in Cell No. 3 of the Choudwar Jail. It has been reported that he is under 24-hour surveillance in that cell, monitored by CCTV cameras.
Given the high-profile nature of the Naba Das murder case, Gopal Das was transferred from Jharsuguda Jail to another facility for security reasons. The jail authorities had submitted a request in this regard to the SDJM Court in Jharsuguda on Tuesday, which was approved by the court, leading to his transfer to Choudwar Jail.
Later in the afternoon, at around 1:30 PM, a dedicated team transported Gopal from Jharsuguda Sub-jail to Choudwar amid tight security. He arrived at the Choudwar facility at approximately 8:20 PM. The police team, traveling in a Bolero, a Tavera, and a Tata Sumo, brought him under heavy protection and handed him over to the Choudwar Jail authorities in the presence of local police.
Extensive security arrangements were made by the Choudwar Jail administration. Upon arrival, Gopal underwent a medical examination. After that, he was placed in Cell No. 3, which is a high-security cell. His movements are being monitored by a separate team through the CCTV cameras installed in that cell. Additionally, there is 24-hour surveillance in three shifts.
As the case has been registered in Jharsuguda, further court proceedings will be conducted via video conferencing from Cuttack. As per jail manual guidelines, regular medical checkups will be conducted for Gopal. If anyone wishes to meet him, it will be allowed following jail regulations.
It is worth noting that Gopal himself had requested to be transferred to Choudwar Jail due to perceived threats to his safety while he was lodged in Jharsuguda Sub-jail. In this context, the jail department had filed a petition with the JMFC Court in Jharsuguda, requesting the magistrate to allow his transfer to another jail. After recording Gopal’s statement, the court issued the order for his transfer.
