BJP Received ₹614 Crore in Donations
New Delhi, 15/02: In the last financial year, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received ₹614.6 crore in donations, whereas the Congress received ₹95.4 crore. This information was revealed in a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), which tracks political funding. Political parties are required to disclose all donations above ₹20,000.
According to the report, national parties declared receiving a total of ₹780.77 crore from 7,141 donations. Out of these, BJP received ₹614.626 crore from 4,957 donations, while Congress declared ₹95.459 crore from 1,255 donations. BJP’s donation tally is more than three times the combined total received by Congress, NCP, CPI, CPI(M), National People’s Party (NPP), and Trinamool Congress.
Notably, for 16 consecutive years, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has declared it did not receive any donation above ₹20,000.
Compared to 2020–21, national parties received ₹187.026 crore more in donations during 2021–22, a 31.50% increase. BJP alone saw a 28.71% rise in donations, up from ₹477.545 crore in 2020–21 to ₹614.626 crore in 2021–22. Congress also saw a 28% growth, from ₹74.524 crore to ₹95.459 crore.
In contrast, parties like CPI(M) and NPP reported a decline in donations. CPI(M) saw a 22.06% drop, down to ₹2.846 crore, and NPP witnessed a 40.50% decrease, receiving only ₹24.10 lakh.
Out of the total donations, ₹625.883 crore (or 80.16%) came from corporates/businesses through 2,551 donations. Another ₹153.328 crore (or 19.63%) came through 4,506 individual contributions.
From corporate donations, BJP received ₹548.808 crore, while it got ₹65.774 crore from individuals. Congress received ₹54.567 crore from corporate/business sectors and ₹40.892 crore from individual donors.
According to the ADR report, BJP alone received over 7 times more corporate donations than all other national parties combined. While BJP received ₹548.808 crore in corporate donations, all other national parties together received just ₹77.075 crore.
