Attack on Revenue Officer by Sand Mafia, Two Arrested by Satyabadi Police
In recent days, the terror of the sand mafia has been evident in various parts of Sakhigopal, where illegal activities such as the excavation and smuggling of soil from government lands and river embankments have been on the rise, mostly carried out under the cover of night. Keeping a close watch on such unlawful practices, on the morning of 18.05.2023 around 10 AM, the Revenue Officer of Rayakhanda Panchayat, along with his team, conducted a raid at a site in the Sual area where soil was being illegally excavated and smuggled by the mafia.
During the raid, the mafias attacked the officer, verbally abused him, and even attempted to run him over with a vehicle. As a result, the officer was unable to carry out his official duties effectively. Based on a report submitted by the Satyabadi Tehsildar, a case (No. 169/2023) was registered at the local police station.
Taking the matter seriously, the District Superintendent of Police formed a special team under his direction. Under the leadership of the Satyabadi IIC, raids were conducted at multiple locations, leading to the arrest of two accused individuals. A tractor involved in the incident was also seized.
The accused are scheduled to be produced in court today. Shri Purna Chandra Pradhan, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Puri, and Shri Debadatta Baral, SDPO Pipili, visited the incident site and are assisting in the investigation. Satyabadi Police have informed that other individuals involved in the case will be arrested soon.
