Decomposed Body of Helpless Elderly Man Found Hanging
Kakatpur, 21/02/2024:
A disturbing incident unfolded in Srichandanpur village under Bangurigaon Gram Panchayat of Kakatpur block, where the decomposed body of an elderly man was found hanging inside his house.
The deceased has been identified as Yogendra Jena, aged 75, son of Indramani Jena. A strong foul odor coming from his house alerted the locals, who suspected something unusual. Upon entering the house, they were shocked to find the elderly man’s body hanging from a ceiling hook.
According to villagers, the elderly couple lived alone in the house, and his wife is reportedly mentally unstable. Their son and daughter-in-law live separately. It is believed that the man, possibly suffering from mental stress and isolation, took the extreme step of suicide.
The condition of the body suggests that he had died 4–5 days earlier. Due to his wife’s mental condition, she was likely unaware of his death and continued moving around in the house without informing anyone.
After receiving information from the locals, Kakatpur Police reached the spot and registered an unnatural death (U.D.) case under section 2/24. The body was sent to Puri District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination.
