Ostapur Villagers Take Innovative Steps to Combat Drug and Alcohol Abuse
Kakatpur – In recent days, as illegal drug trade has been rising in several local areas, some dishonest traders have been luring the younger generation into addiction and illegal activities. While this disturbing trend has been growing, some youths from the Ostapur region were also getting influenced and slipping into addiction. Upon learning this, the villagers of Ostapur, near Kakatpur, came together and set an inspiring example for surrounding communities by adopting a unique, community-led approach to tackle the issue.
Reports suggest that following media coverage of increasing alcohol-related issues in the Ostapur area, many villagers working in different parts of the country felt deeply saddened. In response, villagers like Pradyumna Kumar Senapati, Jitendra Senapati, Tofan Kumar Senapati, Bat Krishna Senapati, and Deepti Ranjan Senapati took the initiative to bring everyone together. They organized a pledge ceremony at the village temple of Lord Swapneshwar, where both those who were addicted and those involved in illegal sale of drugs were made to swear that they would neither consume nor supply any form of narcotics or alcohol in the village.
The aim was to restore the village’s lost reputation and rebuild its honor. This proactive effort is undoubtedly commendable and has been welcomed by many neighboring villages. Through this movement, the villagers of Ostapur have sent a clear and powerful message that drug and alcohol abuse will not be tolerated.
This initiative has reportedly created fear among local drug peddlers and addicts in nearby villages, further strengthening the anti-drug sentiment across the region.
