Farmers in Panic Due to Wild Boar and Deer Menace
Kakatpur (Tushar Ranjan Dixit), 22/11:
Farmers from Mulagada, Samia, Bansidharpur, Lataharana, Shreerampur, Boitikuda, and nearby paddy-growing villages under Kakatpur police limits are in distress as wild boars from nearby forests are entering their fields and destroying the paddy crops by eating the ripened grain. Farmers are left with their hands on their heads in despair. Every evening, hundreds of wild boars are seen invading the paddy fields and causing severe damage. When farmers attempt to chase them away using torches and fire sticks, the wild boars reportedly retaliate and attack.
Despite informing the local forest department and police administration, no effective action has been taken. Farmers are raising concerns — if wild boars and deer continue to cause such damage during the harvesting season, who will compensate for their losses? How will they repay the loans taken from various banks and groups? Profulla Kandi of Boitikuda village questioned how sharecroppers will even pay landowners their share of paddy when there is nothing left to harvest.
