8 Products from Odisha Receive GI Tag
Eight products from Odisha have been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. This recognition for state-produced items was announced through a social media post on platform ‘X’ by the State’s Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department. Among the products listed in the GI tag registry are Khajuri Gur (palm jaggery), Dhenkanal Magaji (a local snack), and Mayurbhanj Kai Chutney.
Similarly, the Nayagarh Kantamundi Brinjal and Dongria Kondh Embroidery Shawl have also received GI tag recognition. While Kendrapara Rasabali and Koraput Kalajeera Rice have been awarded the GI tag, the Lanjia Saura Paintings have also earned this prestigious status.
Back on October 3, 2023, it was announced that Kendrapara Rasabali would receive the GI tag. The application submitted by the Kendrapara Sweet Rasabali Association had been approved. After a thorough quality and standards assessment, the GI tag was awarded. There had long been a demand for the famous Kendrapara Rasabali to be officially recognized with a GI tag.
Following the GI tag recognition for these 8 Odisha products, a wave of joy has swept across the state. There is particular excitement over Khajuri Gur, Nayagarh Kantamundi Brinjal, and the Dongria Kondh Embroidery Shawl receiving the GI tag.
