Maa Tarini Cup Cricket Tournament Celebrated – Jagatsinghpur MCC Crowned Champions
The Maa Tarini Cup Cricket Tournament was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Choudhury Stadium in Astaranga. Organized under the patronage of Maa Tarini Sporting Club, the state-level cricket tournament, which began on February 28, concluded on Saturday with a thrilling final match between Ambedkar Sporting and MCC Sporting, both from Jagatsinghpur.
Ambedkar Sporting won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 179 runs in 20 overs. In response, MCC Sporting chased down the target in just 18 overs, losing only three wickets and scoring 180 runs, thus claiming the championship title.
Following the match, a prize distribution ceremony was held. Kakatpur MLA and Minister of State for Home Affairs Tusharkanti Behera was present as the chief guest, along with Jagatsinghpur MP Rajashree Mallick, Puri Zilla Parishad Vice-Chairman Swadhin Nayak, Banki MLA Devi Ranjan Tripathy, and several other dignitaries. They spoke about the importance of sports and praised the performances of players from both finalist teams for their excellent display of talent and sportsmanship.
The champion team MCC Sporting was awarded a trophy and a cash prize of ₹31,111, while the runner-up Ambedkar Sporting received a trophy and ₹21,111. Chandan Nayak was declared Man of the Match for his outstanding contribution in the final.
The tournament was smoothly conducted with the leadership of Manoj Biswal, President of Maa Tarini Sporting Club, Sameer Kumar Kar, Sports Secretary, and all the club members who played an active role in ensuring the event’s success.
Also present at the event were former Zilla Parishad Chairman Jyotirmaya, BJD Block President Kedar Nath Biswal, Cooperative Director Kunj Bihari Pradhan, Durga Club President Divyadarshi Biswal, and Lakshmi Club President Pramod Das, among other notable guests. The presence of Odia film actress Sheetal Patra added charm to the event, as she captivated the audience with her appearance.
